Wild Encounters North Florida | The Drive That Turned Into a Wildlife Safari | Travel + Wildlife + Sound Gigs

The Drive That Turned Into a Wildlife Safari

If you’ve ever worked late at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, you know the road home can be both peaceful and unpredictable. A couple of weeks before this exact date last year, I was driving home after running sound at the Music Hall when my headlights began to catch eyes in the distance — deer after deer after deer.

By the time I reached home, I had counted 34 deer along that single stretch of highway — including one that almost jumped right in front of my truck and a massive buck standing off to the side like he owned the road. It was one of those classic wild encounters in North Florida that reminds you how alive these late-night drives really are.

🌙 North Florida Nights Hit Different

Driving through the pine forests near Live Oak after a gig feels like slipping into another world.
The adrenaline from the last song fades, the gear’s packed tight, and the only soundtrack left is the hum of the tires and a distant owl call.
Each trip home feels like its own wildlife safari — a blend of music, headlights, and wild Florida beauty.

🎚️ Why I Love the Mix: Travel + Wildlife + Sound Gigs

Working in live sound means spending countless hours on the road — but moments like that night remind me how lucky I am.
Each gig is a connection point where music and nature collide, and no two drives are ever the same.

🦉 Final Thoughts

There’s something about those quiet post-gig drives — gear in the back, adrenaline winding down, music still ringing in your ears — that makes you appreciate North Florida’s wild side even more.
It’s not just about the mix; it’s about the moments between gigs where the road becomes part of the show.
